My baby mama also points out that, once again, Oprah has ripped me off.
According to sources close to Ms. Winfrey, she is planning a Summer of Faulkner. "Members" of Oprah's book club will be reading As I Lay Dying, The Sound and the Fury, and Light in August. I have the last two on my own list, one a re-read, the last as yet untapped. But As I Lay Dying is, perhaps, my favorite Faulkner novel I've read. Maybe I'll plan on reading them all just to join in.
I tend to agree with the old ball and chain: it's really cool that Oprah is getting (at least some of) her audience to read these tough books.
('Course it was even cooler when some of the writers benefiting were still alive, thank you very much Jonathan Franzen.)
