The Little Lady and I were quite taken with the movie Juno. Probably my favorite "new" movie since The Squid and the Whale. I don't see a lot of movies these days, though.

Interestingly, the film was made by Jason Reitman, the director of Thank You for Smoking, which I hated.

I really liked "Squid and the Whale." That dad was such an asshole. Funny how some people refuse to grow up. Hmm... wasn't he an academic? Some good lessons in there about how NOT to be a dad...

Haven't seen "Juno" yet, but I plan on it (when it's out on DVD). Sounds like it's either a love it or hate it movie -- probably depending on whether you buy the dialog.

Yeah, the dialog is snappy and artificial, like a Raymond Chandler novel, or maybe more like *The Thin Man* or old movies like that. Doesn't keep the characters from seeming real, though. And it manages to be a life-affirming, optiimistic movie without seeming trite or smarmy. A real trick to pull off, I think. Even the "bad" guy seems to do the best he can under the circumstances. I'd be interested to know what you think.
