Good interview, especially the bits about non-linear stuff being all the rage at the end of the nineties. I don't recall too much of that a NCSU, though.

Yeah, NCSU was pretty straight-ahead, at least at the time. I don't think there was the fad for incredibly self-conscious prose until a couple of years later. We definitely got a dose of that at VCU, esp. with Bill Tester, though plenty of people were interested in the well-told tale.
The interviewer (and writer and editor), Emma Straub, is the daughter of his eminence, Peter Straub.
